Switzerland

My second visit to Zurich where Kel is living.  I flew in Friday November 23 and left Wednesday November 28, 2001.

The Nason's (Scott Nason -cousin and Kelly Nason) en route via train to Munich on Saturday November 24th.  None of us can really comment too much on the scenery due to the amount of napping that took place.  Although the ground was covered with fresh snow and the trees had a blanket of snow from the odd glimpse that I did catch.

This was in the main square in Munich.  Scott and Kelly pictured outside this activity window where many mechanical stuffed animals make up a scene.  This captured our interest for quite sometime as we looked at the 4 different windows.  Very cleverly put together - it reminded me of the old Simpson's windows downtown at Christmas time.

A quick picture of Kel in the main square on Sunday November 25th just to give you an idea of the architecture.  You can sort of see the low level green roof that is the beginning of a stall for the Christmas market set to open in December.  The square is full of these stalls.  Just to the left of this (but not in this picture) is the Glockenspiel - a large cuckoo clock in the main square (the size of the tower pictured behind Kelly, but more ornate).  We actually came specifically to the square for the 11am 'sounding' of the clock.

Scott and Kel pictured here holding their beers from the famed Hofbrauhaus in Munich.  Laurie was still feeling under the weather and not up to drinking a 'gallon' of beer.  To Kel's credit she finished her whole beer. Next picture is Kel falling off the bench...just kidding!!

With the weather not so good on Sunday we were looking for indoor adventures and the BMW museum was voted as the last stop before heading back to Zurich.  This is the headquarters here and as you can see it is built in the 4-cylinder theme.  Pretty snazzy!!  The museum was hohum, but none of us were really car buffs to begin with so what did we expect?!  The BMW site is directly across from the 1972 Olympic site which we had a good view of on the steps in front of the museum.

Beautiful St. Moritz!!  Scott and I took a 3 hour train ride through the Alps to this 'town of the rich and famous'.  The train ride itself is spectacular.  As you can see it was snowing there (something this Californian girl was somewhat shocked to see!).  Kel outfitted me properly and I was snug as a bug in a rug with all my winter layers.  Scott and I had a delicious lunch at this hotel/restaurant overlooking the lake in St. Moritz.  A very relaxing day and picturesque town.

A photo of Kel's armoire in her livingroom.  This is one of the most beautiful rooms in her apartments with skylights on each side of the sloping ceiling.

Kel with Bear on the last night of our visit.  Bear thoroughly enjoyed his stay and his wonderful host.

Laur in the kitchen just before heading out to the bus stop on departure day.

The infamous cuckoo clock ("trink trink" in German) that I traveled far and wide to find!!  Ever since my fascination of our neighbour's cuckoo clock I have always wanted one.  Kel and I found this in Munich and she split the cost of it with me as a present.  The bird cuckoos at the top and the bottom of the hour and then the music begins.  Lots of enjoyment.  I even coerced Shane into sitting in front of it while we waited for it to cuckoo and chime for the first time (something he isn't too amused about).  So far it has been up for a day and a half and I still run to see it chime!!
