Not too far from the airport is this little Airport Inn. It is such a local hang out that smoking is tolerated in the bar/restaurant (not strictly legal in California). We enjoyed a great lunch and Shane declared the hamburger one of the best ever. |

Since there weren't too many things to take pictures of we stopped by
this sign just outside of the airport facilities and took turns taking
pictures of each other. |
The traffic you see in this picture was not a common thing!! |
The Story
One Sunday afternoon in early June 2001 Shane and I headed off to Mariposa-Yosemite Airport. It is the closest airport to Yosemite National Park. We thought we would add another airport to our list. This airport looked interesting and there were apparently a few restaurants nearby. It was a relatively quick flight on a beautiful sunny day. When we were on final approach we noticed that the runway wasn't flat, but rather sloped uphill. At the airport we were given great directions to a nearby restaurant for lunch. The walk over there was about 10 minutes and we could feel the day beginning to heat up. Fairly uneventful other than we explored what activities we could do on a future visit since Shane hasn't been to Yosemite yet. Car rentals are possible and there are camping grounds nearby as well. We will have to visit again since it cuts off a huge part of the drive into Yosemite from Santa Cruz!!!
